Chief Academic
Officers Academy

Atlantic introduced their latest Academy, the National Chief Academic Officers (CAO) Academy, last spring 2016 in San Francisco. Like the Superintendent’s Academy, the CAO Academy is a national, comprehensive leadership development program established to prepare cohorts of leaders in education for the academic, political, legal, and logistical rigors inherent to K-12 education.

Outstanding Educators Needed to Lead Our Nation’s Schools Systems

The mission of the National CAO Academy is to identify, develop, and support a new generation of outstanding leaders for America’s school systems who will provide our children with the skills they need to live as successful adults in a world of global competition.

National CAO Academy graduates will be highly sought after for their capacity to transform the culture of systems and school, to dramatically improve student achievement, and to close the achievement gaps.

How Does it Work?

The National CAO Academy program will be 10 days in duration. Every participant will complete a skill assessment as part of the orientation process and will have an individual learning plan to guide their learning.

Relevant, Updated and Cutting Edge Curriculum

Each cohort session includes a coherent curriculum focused on preparing superintendents to change school districts from a culture of adult entitlement to a culture of performance, developing accountable systems. Key topics include: developing political skills communication strategy and utilizing data effectively.

Experienced, Highly Successful Faculty

Each cohort session is taught by a cadre of highly successful and experienced superintendents and public and private sector executives—all of whom have been successful in significantly increasing organizational performance.

Motivated Participants

Each year we receive a large number of applications from high performing leaders in education, as well as high performing executives from the military, private sector, and other not-for-profit organizations. Given the limited number of seats, applicants are screened based on career accomplishments and outstanding character. Our cohort members are driven, successful and eager to advance their careers.

Benefits of a School District Having a Cohort Member

After graduating, our cohort members will have a better understanding of the role of CAO to better support their administration, be more prepared in their current role and, ideally, move on to fill this role within their districts. This forward mindset reflects positively on the district and is a useful recruiting and retention tool for rising stars in the district.

Post-Graduation Support

To ensure the success of our recent graduates, we provide support throughout the placement process and the first full year on the job. We understand the challenges that may arise in your new position and we’re here to help our graduates with a smooth transition.

Monitoring of Results

The National CAO Academy will monitor the progress of graduates, tracking those placed in superintendencies, their longevity in position, and student achievement results. This data will be used to inform and continually-improve the program curriculum.
